Gemma raises more than £200 for Eaves!

Gemma Cantlow has raised more than £200 for Eaves from her friends and colleagues by holding a fun quiz in a pub near London Bridge. Around 30 people came to the quiz, including employees from recruitment firm Lipton Fleming, who saw tweets about the event and wanted to lend their support too. People paid between £5-£7 to enter, and teams battled with each other for prizes kindly donated by Gemma’s mum.

Gemma says…

“I chose to fundraise for Eaves because I have worked in the supported housing sector as a Project Worker for a number of years and have been impressed by the variety of services Eaves provides for women. From counselling to workshops and accommodation, Eaves has a lot of experience in supporting women who have experienced violence and abuse. Providing support and a safe space helps women to recover from traumatic experiences, and I felt I wanted to give something towards a charity which has this as a core focus of what it does.

“I booked a room at a pub for the quiz a few months before and spread the word initially on social networking sites and by word of mouth. Eaves helped to promote the event and staff at the pub also put posters up in the venue and promoted it on their website. It was also helpful to contact people who might have a shared interest in the work Eaves does – regular supporters, charities and campaign groups, for example. Because the venue was free, I was able to organise the event without having to spend any money, which meant all of the money raised could go directly to Eaves.

“The quiz went really well and we raised £235 in total. The prizes were donated and every team went away with something, which was an added bonus! We had quite a wide variety of quiz rounds such as picture puzzles, guessing lyrics and general trivia. I’d definitely do it again, as all the hard work paid off and everyone seemed to have fun while putting their quiz skills to good use!”

We’re really grateful to Gemma for all her efforts, and to everyone who entered. If you run an event for Eaves, don’t forget to tell us so that we can tell everyone about it.
